Volunteering FAQ

Q: Can I come for just an hour or two?

A: On weekdays, individuals may come in for as long or short as they would like. We do recommend that groups schedule at least two hours for a shift as we have found this is the minimum amount of time suitable for a project.

Q: Can I volunteer at any time?

A: Yes. Volunteer shifts are scheduled. You pick the time and schedule it with the volunteer coordinator. During our evening and weekend hours, we have set shift times and volunteers adhere to these times. It is also important that volunteers show up on time for these shifts.

Q: Can I bring a group?

A: Yes! We would love for you to bring a group. Groups do need to sign up in advance. We recommend that groups have more than one date in mind when contacting us.

Q: Can children participate?

A: Volunteering is a great way to teach children about service and spend some quality time with them. Children of all ages are welcome. Children between ages 12 and 16 may volunteer without an adult, only after the Volunteer Coordinator approves. Teenagers between 16 and 18 years of age may volunteer without an adult, but must have a signed permission slip by a parent/guardian. We ask that groups have 1 adult for every 4 to 5 youth under the age of 16.

Q: Can I complete community service hours at Madonna House?

A: Madonna House welcomes volunteers seeking to complete business or school related community service, for your fraternity, sorority, or other service organization. We also welcome select volunteers needing to complete court related community service.

Q: I would like to do something for Madonna House that is not listed on the volunteer programs. Is that ok?

A: Absolutely! The possibilities are endless. If you have a special skill (such as web design, grant writing, or photo editing) we would love to have you as well!
